About This Project

A large-scale poolside transformation in a private Chelmsford residence — 550m² of our flagship Supreme 40mm artificial grass installed to create a safe, stunning, and entirely low-maintenance outdoor living space.

On this project in Howe Green, Chelmsford, the client approached Essex Artificial Grass with a clear brief: make this expansive back garden both aesthetically impressive and easy to maintain. The primary goal was to create a surface around their outdoor swimming pool that was safe underfoot, visually inviting, and suitable for regular family use throughout the year.

At 550m², this was a significant undertaking requiring meticulous ground preparation from the outset. Four grab lorries worth of soil and clay were excavated from the site. A geotextile membrane was laid at soil level to prevent weed growth before 65 tonnes of MOT Type One sub-base was levelled and compacted. A concrete strip was installed for fixing, followed by 13 tonnes of hand-screeded 0–5mm granite dust to provide the perfect, stable surface for the grass.

Our Supreme 40mm artificial grass was then installed across the entire area, delivering a lush, realistic finish that looks immaculate in every season. The result is a vibrant, durable outdoor space the family can enjoy year-round — with no mowing, no muddy patches, and no ongoing maintenance headaches.
